Meet the Makers: Transmedia San Francisco

On Monday 30 January 2012, I attended Meet the Makers: Transmedia San Francisco. I was very keen to check out what the discussion points are around and who/what is involved in this space. My first exposure to this world, in the industry events space, was at the 2009 X Media Lab: Serious Games conference in Sydney. Since then, I have been hooked in finding out what the project developments are in this space but job prospects might be shaky based on a confession from one producer who has been laid off four times in one year. Highlights for the night: Presentation – Maya Zuckerman presents What is Transmedia Panel session: Hope Hutman – President and Co-Founder of Telefon Projekt Hope is President and Co-Founder of Telefon Projekt whose technology allows content creators to produce experiences in which conversations – actual spoken dialog or text exchanges – between real people and virtual or fictional characters impact the flow of a narrative. The conversations can be integrated with any media that can delivered over the internet – video, animation, social media, etc – allowing what a person says to control what’s seen on screen. WATCH I was personally excited by Hope Hutman’s work for a few reasons – it’s close to my personal digital art style, has a very compelling narrative underlying it and also because I would expect someone like her speaking at a X Media Lab type of event! Justin Oliphant – VFX Editor and Founder of Zoetic Labs Following the success of his six month long “Friend of a Friend Project,” Justin began working on his recently launched project Zoetic Labs, in which 3 robots have been sent out into the world to document and report back on the best things in human life. Moderator: Beth Rogozinski, CEO D2S Games, Co-Founder, Transmedia SF The event ended with short ‘soapbox’ style of pitches with many either seeking collaborators, support or networking for their projects. This was my first Transmedia meetup and I’m hoping to attend more!
